Rainbow Lorikeets

The best pets are not in cages. They are plentiful in the North and Eastern parts of Australia all the way down to Victoria and South Australia. They are very social. In some areas around here, their calls drown out ever other sound as they come home to roost at sunset in their hundreds. It might be thousands but lets be conservative here - they move around so quickly I can't count fast enough!

Rainbow Lorikeet

These gregarious party animals visit our home in flocks of up to 30 or more. They are the ultimate hippies - feeding on flowers, nectar, berries and fruit. Many suburbanites have feeding trays in their garden with bread soaked in honey diluted with water. We don't. We just leave them to feed on the native trees in our garden so they become seasonal visitors. Better to let Nature go it's own way.

By the way, when these birds feed on the flowers of a bottle brush tree, you clearly see how their colour scheme is perfect camouflage.
